Many know Mark Borthwick as an exceptional fashion photographer; perhaps fewer are aware of his ongoing experiments in film, music, and visual art. With Borthwick, these worlds often collide in site-specific installations of his photographs alongside drawings, texts, and performances, perhaps in a museum gallery, perhaps at a dinner party. Followers of his work have come to expect the unexpected; asked to photograph several pieces of furniture for the renowned German manufacturer e15, he chose to do so outdoors instead of in the home, dodging what might have been expected of him for the sake of an alternative vision. Born in London, Mark Borthwick lives with his wife, the designer Maria Cornejo, and two children in Brooklyn, New York.
