Kria

A native of Reykjavik, Iceland, Jóhanna Methúsalemsdóttir moved to New York City in 1988, where she started her professional career in jewelry with Me & Ro. Having also worked as a stylist for publications including Nylon, Blackbook, and InStyle, Methúsalemsdóttir launched Kria in 2007.

Often difficult to discern, the forms that run throughout Kria collections are based on organic objects like tree branches, vertebrae, and wing bones--indeed, Methúsalemsdóttir continues to find inspiration in a moment when, on a black lava beach in Iceland, the designer encountered a bird skeleton nestled in the sand. With Kria, Methúsalemsdóttir re-imagines these forms, lending them solidity in a range of precious metals and stones.
