Dries Van Noten was born in Antwerp in 1958. His immediate and extended family, many of whom were involved in the fashion and tailoring industries, exposed him to both creative and commercial aspects of fashion design from his youth.

During and following his studies at Antwerp's Royal Academy, Van Noten worked as a freelance designer on commercial collections for a Belgian manufacturer. He launched his own line, which met with immediate success, in 1986. Characterized by original textiles, colorful prints, and flawless cuts, Van Noten's highly imaginative and simultaneously practical approach continues to set a high standard for menswear.
