Christian Wijnants was born in Brussels in 1973. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, in 2000, Wijnants worked with designers including Dries van Noten and Angela Tarlazzi; he launched his own line in 2003.

Wijnants has become known for his innovations in knitwear and his imaginative collections drawing on anything from Surrealism to wildlife. Throughout his collections, the designer's relentlessly innovative brand of femininity remains constant.

Having earned both the Swiss Textiles Award (2000) and the Andam Prize (2006), Christian Wijnants is based in Antwerp, where he has been a professor of design at the Royal Academy since 2005.
